Welcome to Saskatchewan Junior Handlers

If you are aged 4 to 17 and love dogs, this might be the perfect sport for you! Saskatchewan Junior Handlers is a youth-driven program that introduces young people to the world of purebred dogs and canine competition in a supportive, confidence-building environment.

Junior Handlers learn sportsmanship, teamwork, communication, and animal-handling skills through two main CKC-sanctioned formats:
Conformation Handling and Obedience Trials. Junior competitors earn points throughout the show season, working toward qualification for the annual Zone Finals, where winners may go on to represent Saskatchewan at Nationals.

Our juniors also enjoy participating in a variety of additional dog sports, demonstrations, and training opportunities. Events and trials are held throughout the year both within Saskatchewan and beyond, giving handlers opportunities to travel, grow, and make friendships across the dog-sport community.

Whether you're just starting out or already experienced in the ring, there’s a place for you in our Saskatchewan Junior Handler family.

We currently don’t run weekly classes, but we host special events, workshops, and hands-on seminars to help young handlers learn, gain confidence, and develop real skills in the ring. Whether you’re brand-new to dogs or already competing, we’ll do our best to match each junior with a suitable mentor and help connect families with local dog clubs for guidance and training support. Even if you don’t have a CKC-registered dog, we’ll work with you to explore breed interest and possible dog-handling opportunities. Our goal is simple: encourage youth participation, provide education, and build the future of our sport—one young handler at a time.
